Directories are moderated by real people who look at the content of websites that are submitted and place them in the relevant categories.

Yahoo is the largest and most well-known directory with experts that review the sites before indexing them. However sites submitted to Yahoo are reviewed by Yahoo experts in the particular topic the site is submitted to for indexing.

Dmoz.org is an open-source directory which powers the results for a number of major search engines. It is open in the sense that anyone can become a site reviewer to accept sites into the directory. Getting listed in DMOZ is important because it is used by Google as the Google directory pages and also by many other directory sites.

TIPS

1. Directory lists are often in alphabetical order so for categories which list a large number of sites, you should try and have a title starting with A to be found at the top of the list.

2. However more important is to have a GOOD title that will make a visitor interested on clicking. Make sure the title is relevant to the content of your site because this will bring pre-qualified traffic.
